چکیده

RESULTSdThe mean TCSS scores of the IGT and DM groups were 2.56 2.3 and 2.86 2.2, respectively. No significant differences between the two groups were observed. After adjustment of age and BMI, the DM group showed significant NCS differences in DS and MDC nerves compared with the HC group (P , 0.05). These differences were also exhibited in the left DS of the IGT group (P = 0.0003). More advanced NCS findings were observed in the DM group. Bilateral abnormal NCS responses in these distal sensory nerves were found in 40 and 16% of DM and IGT patients, respectively.

Assessment of the Medial Dorsal Cutaneous, Dorsal Sural, and Medial Plantar Nerves in Impaired Glucose Tolerance and Diabetic Patients With Normal Sural and Superficial Peroneal Nerve Responses

OBJECTIVE This study evaluated the nerve conduction study (NCS) parameters of the most distal sensory nerves of the lower extremities-namely, the medial dorsal cutaneous (MDC), dorsal sural (DS), and medial plantar (MP) nerves-in diabetic (DM) and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) patients who displayed normal findings on their routine NCSs. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Standard NCSs were perfo...

Nerve Conduction Study of the Superficial Peroneal Sensory Distal Branches in Koreans

OBJECTIVE To perform nerve conduction studies of the four branches of the superficial peroneal nerves to determine normal values and anatomic variations in Koreans. METHOD Antidromic sensory nerve conduction studies of the four distal branches were performed on 70 healthy subjects (100 feet). We applied electrical stimulation at the midpoint of medial and lateral malleoli for the medial dorsa...

Contribution of cutaneous inputs from the hindpaw to the control of locomotion. II. Spinal cats.

The goal of these experiments was to define the contribution of hindpaw cutaneous inputs in the expression of spinal locomotion in cats. In 3 cats, some (n = 1) or all (n = 2) cutaneous nerves were cut bilaterally at ankle level before spinalization. This denervation caused small deficits that were gradually compensated as reported in the companion study. After spinalization, the completely den...

Electrodiagnostic study of peripheral nervous system in Behcet’s disease

Introduction: Bechcet’s disease (BD) is a chronic disease with multiple organ involvement such as central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS). Involvement of PNS has been reported controversially and uncommon in textbooks and literatures. The aim of this study in to evaluate the auxiliary role of electrodiagnosis in early detection of PNS involvement to prevent neuropathy...

Anomalous superficial peroneal nerve and variant cutaneous innervation of the sural nerve on the dorsum of the foot: a case report

BACKGROUND The superficial peroneal nerve is a branch of common peroneal nerve. There are reports about the variant course and distribution of this nerve. The sural nerve arises from the tibial nerve in the popliteal fossa. The variations of the above nerves described here are unique and provide significant information to surgeons dissecting lower limb. CASE PRESENTATION The present case is a...
